About Us.

Like his father before him, Alex was born and brought up in the restaurant trade. Mum and Dad (Lakis and Diana) ran one of Zakynthos island’s most successful tavernas for almost 40 years….The Olive Tree, in Tsilivi. Lakis was the chef and Diana front of house. It proved to be a winning recipe! Alex followed his own career path and became a very talented, award-winning flair bartender and mixologist, eventually moving to the UK to work. His inherited passion and talent with food has always been present though, so it was no big surprise when, after 10 years shaking his cocktail tins, he decided to hone these gifts and swap the bar for the kitchen! He loves nothing more than hanging out in the kitchen (or at the BBQ!) with his Dad, sharing his modern, innovative ideas and getting creative….teaching an old dog new tricks!

Lakis, in turn, loves sharing father/son foodie time with Alex, passing on old, traditional family recipes learnt in his parents’ taverna in Corfu along with the wealth of experience and knowledge he gained at The Olive Tree as he developed his own recipes and style there. Lakis has an insatiable appetite when it comes to learning new techniques and new recipes, but he’s a traditionalist at heart and takes great pride in cooking and show-casing the classics of his country’s extensive cuisine.

As for Diana, her slightly unconventional but open approach to life keeps the family light-hearted and, together with her passion for travel and cultural adventures, balances the household.

So, that’s us folks! A family that’s passionate about food, cooking and people, looking to share all that enthusiasm, keeping it real and aiming to inspire.
